Charitable Contributions

Supports charitable causes and — as the DCMS code requires — discloses those contributions transparently.

What it is

The operation gives back through donations, dedicated charity competitions, or ongoing support for good causes — and is open about it. Common approaches include sharing a percentage of profits with a chosen charity, or running recurring weekly or monthly competitions whose ticket sales all go to the chosen charity. Where contributions are made, the DCMS Voluntary Code treats clear disclosure of how much goes to charity, and to whom, as a core obligation.

Why we track it

A real, transparent charitable commitment signals an operator invested in more than ticket revenue. It is also a core area of the DCMS Voluntary Code of Good Practice: the Code expects operators who contribute to charity to state clearly how much (or exactly how it is worked out) and which charity benefits, rather than leaving it vague.

How to earn it

This is one of several weighted indicators behind a site's letter grade (A+ to F). We don't publish the exact points or thresholds, but earning more indicators — and avoiding hostile T&C clauses — moves a site up the scale. See the full method on our How We Rate page.
