Competitions are not investments

Prize competitions are games of chance. No matter how good the odds look, there is never a guarantee that you will win. Every entry you purchase should be money you are comfortable losing entirely.

CompWatch is an information directory — we help you compare competitions, but we do not encourage you to spend more than you can afford. Please treat competition entries as entertainment, not as a way to make money.

Setting a budget

Before entering any competitions, decide how much you can afford to spend in a given week or month and stick to it. A few tips:

  • Set a fixed weekly or monthly spending limit and do not exceed it, regardless of how attractive a competition looks.
  • Never chase losses by buying more entries after an unsuccessful draw.
  • Keep track of how much you have spent — it can add up quickly across multiple sites.
  • If you subscribe to Power Mode, use the weekly budget feature in settings to monitor your spending against competition end dates.

About predicted odds

Our predicted odds feature uses statistical models based on historical sell-through data from thousands of past competitions. While we believe these estimates are useful for comparing competitions, they are not a guarantee of any outcome.

Predictions can be wrong. Actual final odds may differ significantly from our estimates. You should never use predicted odds as a reason to spend more money or to enter a competition you would not otherwise enter.

Where we do not have enough historical data to make a reliable prediction, we show an infinity symbol (∞) rather than displaying a potentially misleading estimate.

Warning signs

You may want to take a step back from entering competitions if you recognise any of the following:

  • Spending more than you originally planned or can afford.
  • Feeling anxious or stressed about money you have spent on entries.
  • Entering competitions to try to win back money you have already spent.
  • Hiding how much you are spending from family or friends.
  • Borrowing money or using credit to buy competition entries.
  • Neglecting bills, savings or other responsibilities to fund entries.

If any of these apply to you, please consider reaching out to one of the support services below.
